Women of Weymouth: April Meeting with Stephen E. Smith

The Women of Weymouth meets on the third Monday of each month from September to May. Each meeting features an invited speaker or program. Social time begins at 9:30am with the business meeting beginning at 10am. The speaker will follow. Meetings take place in the Great Room.

On April 15th, Stephen E. Smith will read a selection from his upcoming memoir. Stephen E. Smith was born in Easton, Maryland, in 1946. After graduating from Elon College, he attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received his MFA in 1971. His poems, stories, columns, and reviews have appeared in many periodicals and anthologies. He is the author of ten books of poetry and prose and is the recipient of the Poetry Northwest Young Poet’s Prize, the Zoe Kincaid Brockman Prize for poetry, and four North Carolina Press awards. He is also a three-time winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition for songwriting. He lives in Southern Pines and contributes columns, reviews and features to PineStraw, Walter, and O.Henry magazines, and he occasionally plays guitar and sings the old songs with friends and neighbors at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities.
