Party for the Pine 2024 will celebrate the 476th birthday of the oldest known living longleaf pine in the world on April 20th | 10am-3pm! Join in the celebration at Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve for a family-friendly afternoon with a guided hike to the pine, animals, games and watch a live demonstration prescribed burn (weather permitting)! There will be arts & crafts vendors and food trucks on site for the fun. Learn about the unique longleaf forest ecosystem and the role that fire plays in keeping it healthy as you talk with conservation experts and wildlife educators. See how tar, pitch and turpentine were made from pine resin, and why we’re known as the Tar Heel State! The event is free and open to the public.
