Weymouth Center: “Great Truths Without Division: Chinese Garden Culture in Contemporary Art” Exhibit

Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities presents the “Great Truths Without Division: Chinese Garden Culture in Contemporary Art” exhibit on display from July 7th-July 20th in the Great Room. An opening reception takes place on July 7th | 6:00pm-7:30pm.
Great Truths Without Division: Chinese Garden Culture in Contemporary Art examines how contemporary artists reconfigure traditional East Asian garden aesthetics to convey themes of transformation, spirituality, and cultural exchange. Inspired by Taoism, Buddhism, and Christianity, the exhibition celebrates the interconnectedness of all life and the shared future of humanity.
Bringing together the work of 32 artists, including faculty and students from the Academy of Fine Arts at Minzu University of China, this exhibition bridges classical garden traditions with vibrant, contemporary forms of expression. Paintings, sculptures, installations, and digital media all draw inspiration from the poetic beauty of classical gardens, reimagined through a global lens.
This show also celebrates a historic milestone for the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities, marking the first time it has welcomed a visual artist-in-residence in its 100-year history, with Xianghua Liu. His participation underscores Weymouth’s commitment to fostering international dialogue and collaboration across disciplines.
By creating connections across East and West, past and present, Great Truths Without Division offers fresh perspectives on unity, ecology, and cultural diversity, reinforcing the Weymouth Center as a place where tradition and innovation grow together as community connections deepen.
