Weymouth Center: “Come Sunday” Jazz Series with Roland Barber

Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities popular “Come Sunday” Jazz Brunch Series is back! Join outdoors on Weymouth Center’s beautiful grounds for live jazz on the last Sunday of the month! Coined for Duke Ellington’s classic “Come Sunday,” each jazz event features internationally renowned jazz artists who will perform their own rendition of Ellington’s masterpiece. Please bring your own blanket, chairs and a picnic. Enjoy a cash bar with mimosas, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages available. This is a family-friendly event! The first performer of this year’s series is renowned trombonist Roland Barber. Roland will be accompanied by Jim Crew on piano, Thomas Taylor on drums, and William Ledbetter on bass. The “Come Sunday” 2022-2023 series is generously sponsored by FirstHealth Concierge Medicine and Spark the Arts of the North Carolina Arts Council. Roland Barber’s performance is presented in partnership with UNC Pembroke.

Roland Barber has enjoyed a career full of diverse and exciting musical pursuits, achieving such powerful, soulful, and spiritual artistry as a jazz performer that Curtis Fuller (John Coltrane’s only trombonist) exclaimed upon hearing him, “Now THAT’s what jazz trombone is all about!” Roland’s style is a synthesis of jazz’s finest elements. sporting a keen, fluent command of the bebop language tempered with a compelling sense of melodic “voice” that’s rooted in the swagger and soul of the blues and swing traditions.

The cost is $25 for Weymouth Members and $35 for non-members. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

VIP tables are seated tables with an umbrella for up to six people and are the best seats in the house, situated in the shade and near the stage for the perfect view. The VIP table package includes your tickets for music, light hors d’oeuvres, a charcuterie board served at your table, a mimosa carafe for six, and vouchers for six beverages of your choice from the bar.
