Sandhills Community College Jazz Band Concert: “A Cavalcade of Big Bands”

The SCC Jazz Band, the “Sound of Swing in the Sandhills” for over 57 years, will hold a concert on Monday, November 10th. As a special bonus for the evening, the Union Pines High School Jazz Band, led by our own Rob Hill, will start off the concert at 6:00pm with the SCC Jazz Band performing from 6:30pm-8:00pm. The concert will be held in BPAC’s Owens Auditorium, on the campus of Sandhills Community College.
Join the SCC Jazz Band for a concert highlighting “A Cavalcade of Big Bands” from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s including music made famous by Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. Some of the tunes you will hear are I’ll Be Seeing You, In the Mood, Stardust, Stompin’ at the Savoy, One O’Clock Jump, and C Jam Blues.
The SCC Jazz Band is led by Dr. Larry Arnold, Professor Emeritus at UNC Pembroke and long time Aberdeen resident. Among the talented local musicians who you may know are Rev. Dr. Paul Murphy of Southern Pines, Angela Matthews, Music Director at Southern Lee High School, Rob Hill, Music Director at Union Pines High School and former director of the Jazz Band, Chris Dunn, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Moore County, and Wayne Osborne, musical theater drum set and percussion specialist.
SCC Jazz Band concerts are free events, open to the public. BPAC offers concessions for purchase including wine, beer, soda, and snacks. No outside food or drink is permitted. Tickets are required. Get your free tickets online through the event website link provided below.
