October 5 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
FREEThe EAA Young Eagles “Kids Fly Free” event planned for this weekend has been postponed due to Hurricane Helene relief efforts taking place at Moore County Airport. The new date will now be Saturday, November 2nd | 9am-1pm.
The Moore County Airport is welcoming the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to conduct the biannual Young Eagle Kids Fly Free Day! The event takes place on Saturday, May 4th | 9am-1pm when children ages 8-17 can take a free flight in a small plane with experienced pilots. Take to the skies and enjoy a bird’s eye view of our beautiful community while learning about the science of flight. It is a fantastic opportunity for any aspiring pilot or aviation enthusiast. There will be displays of airplanes and aviation equipment set up as well. It will be an educational and fun-filled day. Sponsors of the day include the Sandhills Fliers, Pinecrest High School Junior ROTC, the Civil Air Patrol and EAA Chapter 1220. This event has become a highlight at the airport with local pilots volunteering their time and aircraft to provide an unforgettable experience for the participants.
“Launched in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated 30 years to giving youth ages 8–17 their first free ride in an airplane. It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation. Today, nearly 2.3 million young people have enjoyed a free introductory flight through the Young Eagles program. These flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.”
Registration is easy and can be completed upon arrival.
