Arts Council of Moore County & BPAC: Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz

February 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$69

Join as the Arts Council of Moore County and Bradshaw Performing Arts Center present the 2023 Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz Festival! The event returns to the tradition of presenting great jazz performances as a joint event by the Arts Council and Sandhills Community College. The festival takes place on February 10 & 11 at Sandhills Community College in BPAC’s Owens Auditorium.

“The Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz burst onto the local music scene back in 1986 as a fundraiser for the Arts Council. The list of artists who have graced the Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz stage reads like a veritable “who’s who” in the jazz world. Artists like Shirley Horn, Ellis Marsalis, Freddie Cole, John Pizzarelli, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band would be headliners in any jazz club. Audiences have welcomed a movie star (Molly Ringwald), waited for an answer to a marriage proposal, and joined a conga line throughout the ballroom.”

The Jazz Festival begins on Friday, February 10 at 6:30pm. Enjoy a free concert by the Sandhills Community College Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Larry Arnold. The SCC Jazz Band is a traditional big band with fifteen+ volunteer musicians from Moore County and beyond.

The fun continues on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30pm as vocalist Clint Holmes will headline with the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Gregg Gelb. Guest artists also include Kobie Watkins on drums and Christian Tamburr on piano and vibes. The Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble will open the evening. The ensemble is one of only fifteen groups in the United States to compete in the 2022 Essential Ellington High School Jazz Competition in New York City.
